GOD'S GONNA CUT YOU DOWN
I thought it was fitting to end this companion site to the man who was the inspiration behind it all: my father, Bruce.
My relationship with him in life was the same as in the book, except we never got to have the trip together. The first draft was much more autobiographical, but in the end I couldn't do it to him. Whatever he was, he wasn't a bad man. He didn't deserve for me to kick out at him in a book.
He died in late 2018, and there were a lot of things left unsaid, but perhaps they didn't need to be. In some ways he didn't give me much, but he gave me a love of Johnny Cash, of reading books, and even a tendency to go grey earlier than most, which is why I'm here, writing this companion site to my book. All that formed it, he gave me. For that, at least, I'm happy to thank him.
